Every child’s room needs to be organized and children’s storage bins are one of the first items used to hold accessories, toys, clothes and more. In soft colors, children’s storage bins are often selected according to a child’s room décor and are functional as well as stylish. Additionally, when it comes to thinking about dangerous objects that are in your child’s room, storage bins typically aren’t on the list. However, Lowe’s has recalled 84,000 storage bins due to excessive lead levels found in the paint. This is quite alarming as Lowe's is one of the most popular home goods store and storage bins are commonly found in all children’s rooms.
Magus Industry Company Ltd manufactured the storage bins in Taiwan and they were imported to the United States by L G Sourcing Inc., a company located in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. The company has agreed with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission to recall the bins due to dangers associated with lead poisoning. The bins come in a variety of colors; however only the light mint green and soft pink colored children’s storage bins have been recalled. The bins are crafted from wood and have detailed scalloped edges. You can find the number 226782 imprinted on the base of the green bin and the number 226781 on the base of the pink bin. Though the company produces additional style bins it is only the green and pink bin with the official name Children’s Storage Bins that have been recalled.
Since the bins come in both green and pink they were used in more girls rooms than boys. However, since they were inexpensively priced, they were a popular choice for many kids’ rooms and blended with different decor. Many units have been sold as they began hitting the retail market in March 2007 and were sold until February. If you have one of these storage bins, you are advised to bring it to Lowe’s. They will provide you with a refund of your money. Again, check the base of your bin for the number and if it matches, you do not need a receipt for a refund. If you have any questions regarding the recall you can contact your local Lowe's outlet or you may contact the company L G Sourcing at 1-866-493-6563. Lead poisoning does not present symptoms until there is an extremely high build up of lead in the blood. If you believe that your child has been exposed to high levels of lead then contact your health care provider immediately.
