Indiana Prescription Drug Card ProgramPrescription Help for Uninsured or Underinsured Indiana Residents
Whether uninsured or underinsured, all Indiana residents are able to benefit from a new statewide prescription coverage program known as the Indiana Drug Card program.
In a tight economy, many Indiana residents are struggling to pay for necessary prescriptions. While the Indiana Drug Card is not a form of insurance, it can help Hoosiers reduce prescription costs by lowering their out-of-pocket expenses on prescription drugs. Cards can be printed and the program can be used at no cost to all Indiana residents. The Indiana Drug Card Insurance Coverage ProgramThe Indiana Drug Card Program offers discounted prescriptions to all Indiana residents, with no prequalification necessary. According to the Indiana Drug Card Website, the following information can be helpful to those considering using the program:
How to use the Indiana Drug Card ProgramThe Indiana government has made the Indiana Drug Card program simple to use. To obtain a prescription card, simply go to the Indiana Drug Card website, fill in three text boxes (first name, last name, and email address), and click on Create Prescription Card. The card can then be printed and used immediately. There is also a link to check participating pharmacies as well as the pricing of a specific medication. A separate card must be printed for each family member, and cards can be printed as many times as needed. If a resident is having a difficult time accessing the website or downloading a card, they can contact the pharmacy that they use (such as CVS) to see if they can use the program without a hardcopy of the card. How the Program Benefits Indiana ResidentsFor residents who are uninsured, the Indiana Drug Card gives prescription discounts of up to 60%. Although the program is not a form of insurance, the downloadable program card can be presented to a pharmacist in the same manner as an insurance card. For the underinsured, such as members of HSA’s (Health Savings Accounts), people with high deductable plans, or people with Medicare Part D, who lack prescription coverage, the prescription card can pick up where their insurance leaves off. For individuals with adequate prescription coverage, the card can also be presented to determine the best rate between the insurance and the program. The Indiana Drug Card can also be used for prescriptions that are not covered, or for non-formulary prescriptions. Participating PharmaciesA full and updated list of participating pharmacies can be found at the Indiana Drug Card website. Some of the pharmacies that are currently participating are:
